Bad Berleburg wurde erstmals 1258 urkundlich erwähnt. Das Schloss ist Sitz derfürstlichen Familie Sayn-Wittgenstein. das Schloss (16. und 18. Jh.) beherbergt ein Museum mit Sammlungen der fürstlichen Familie und über Land und Leute.
