In der Zeit der DDR erbrachte allein die Textilindustrie etwa 40% der industriellen Bruttoproduktion des Zittauer Kreises. Aus sieben Textilfabriken ging das Zittauer Textilkombinat hervor, einer der größten Textilproduzenten der DDR.
