Den südlichen Teil des Scharmützelsees umrahmt der staatlich anerkannte Erholungsort Wendisch Rietz. Hier, am Rande des kleinen Ortszentrums, direkt am See befindet sich in einmaliger Lage der Ferienpark Scharmützelsee mit ca. 90 Ferienhäusern. Mit der Umsetzung des Konzepts wurde im Jahr 2001 begonnen. Über 70 Ferienhäuser sind bisher fertiggestellt.
