The historical building was office of the Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda during the time of National Socialism. Later on German Democratic Republic ( GDR ) President Wilhelm Pieck was using it as a place of residence. After extensive modernisation and renovation works by architect Paul Kleinhues, the FMLAS moved into its main office near Wilhelmplatz
